Abstract
A study of Imam Ali's ijtihad life shows that his jurisprudential manifestation is particularly brilliant and fruitful in the realm of governmental jurisprudence. He is famous for issuing many fatwas based on his ijtihad, and with the title of "The Judge of My Nation, Ali ibn Abi Talib," he became the most prominent judge of the Messenger of God and the caliphs before him, and his ijtihad narrations have enriched the jurisprudential heritage of the Sunnis. In this study, an attempt was made to analyze and analyze some of Imam Ali's ijtihad narrations in Sunni sources about the sources of his ijtihad and how he confronted the rebels using a descriptive-analytical method. The conclusion was that although his opinions and views were always based on the Book of God and the Sunnah of his Prophet, in cases where he could not find a clear answer in them, he was a capable mujtahid who, considering the general rules found in the original sources, used ijtihad by analogy, and sometimes used the interests of the message, isthan, and custom in his inferences. Imam Ali considered the existence of the permissible, the absolute carrying over the restricted, the allocation of the general to the specific in referring to the Quran and the action of the single news in referring to the Sunnah. During his caliphate, he was able to establish a clear and dynamic jurisprudence on how to confront the opponents of the government (rebels) by referring to the sources of ijtihad, and he forever became a reference for jurists after him, to the extent that, according to the confession of many mujtahids, if it were not for Imam Ali's confrontation with the rebels, the method of fighting the people of the Qiblah would remain unknown.
