Abstract
The present study conducts a comparative analysis of the narrations regarding the virtues of Imam Ali (peace be upon .him) as presented in two prominent Islamic works. namely Zakhā'er al-'Aqbi Muhibb al-Din al-Tabari and Manaqib al-Tahirin by Imad al-Din al-Tabari. The primary objective of this research is to examine the influence of the authors’ religious, social, and historical presuppositions of the two authors on the compilation and interpretation of hadiths related to Imam Ali(peace be upon him). Ali(peace be upon him). Based on the findings of this researchconducted using library research, Writers, shaped by the cultural and social circumstances of their times, have approached religious topics from different perspectives. Indirectly, through the form and content of their works, they have reflected the religious and social needs of their surrounding environments. The work Zakhā'er al-'Aqbi, set within the framework of sectarian tensions in the Islamic societies of the 7th century (Hijri), and based on the beliefs and sources accepted by Sunni Islam, seeks to elucidate the virtues of Imam Ali (peace be upon him). In contrast, Manāqib al-Ṭāhirīn, composed in a predominantly Shi‘a context and relying narratively on the legacy of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), focuses on affirming and strengthening their status—particularly that of Imam Ali (peace be upon him)—as the immediate successor to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his family. The text compares two works on Imam Ali (peace be upon him): one uses comparative and qualitative analysis rooted in Sunni sources, while Manaqib al-Tahirin emphasizes Shia narrations and his succession. Despite differing approaches, both support inter-sectarian dialogue and highlight Imam Ali's virtues as a point of unity.
